Hosted by Housing & Development Board
Through constant R&D, the Housing & Development Board (HDB) is pioneering innovative developments and new technologies for the built environment and to improve the lives of residents. We will go behind the scenes to understand more about some of HDB’s outstanding work.
The tour begins with a visit to Kampung Admiralty – winner of the prestigious World Building of the Year 2018 award at the World Architecture Festival. Kampung Admiralty is the first-of-its-kind development in Singapore which integrates housing for the elderly with a wide range of social, healthcare, communal, commercial and retail facilities. Completed in May 2017, the 11-storey “modern kampung” in Woodlands aims to promote active living and encourage social interaction among the community
Next, we will take a short coach ride to The Centre of Building Research (CBR). Set up in 2009, the CBR is HDB’s Master Laboratory. It spearheads the research and development efforts in building and environmental sustainability while nurturing new technologies for future generations of public housing. These include new housing materials, prefabrication technology, urban solutions and systems, green construction technology and environmental sustainability.
About the Housing & Development Board
The Housing & Development Board (HDB) is the public housing authority in Singapore. Born in 1960 to address an acute housing shortage situation, HDB has today successfully housed more than 80 percent of Singapore’s resident population in well-designed flats located in comprehensively planned housing estates. Beyond the hardware of public housing, the building of communities is also of utmost importance to HDB. HDB has earned much international acclaim, including winning the 2010 United Nations Habitat Scroll of Honour Award, the most prestigious human settlements award in the world to date.
